GOP Victory Rally (Election Selection: Round 2)
This afternoon we attended the Indiana GOP Victory Rally at Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg.
President Bush had the over capacity crowd of 4,000 jazzed for the upcoming election. As you can see from the photo above, people filled the gym quite literally to the rafters. I was personally enthused to see so many college students in the crowd. All I spoke with assured me they were indeed going to vote. [I do not know what this means, but a variety of studies over the past seven years show college students becoming more ‘conservative,’ albeit still in a minority.]

The President’s talk was positive, lighthearted, and humorous; none of the ‘doom-and-gloom air’ one reads so much about in the majority of the national media. The crowd was exceedingly energized, and ready for the final, critical week leading up to the general election (all the tickets were spoken for within three hours of the announced visit.)
Mike has once again assembled a formidable ground team, and his extensive GOTV efforts assured his success in 2004. His 2006 campaign accomplishments in this area far surpass both those which brought him victory two years prior, and from what I have seen and heard, also those of his competitor Baron Hill in this year’s race. Congressman Sodrel’s ground initiatives are but one reason that the National Republican Party has agreed to funnel campaign cash, and perhaps more importantly national political personalities, into his campaign this year.
The C-J has already posted an article on the rally.
Of course there was the same small, tired haggard group of gray haired protestors on the road leading to the high school, and a few in the parking lot. I’m sure I recognize some of these folks as the same who ‘greeted’ me and others outside LAX in early 1972; and through the years in a variety of other past protests. As the saying goes, just give ‘em a free sandwich and shove a sign in their hand, and they’ll protest anything! But hey, that is indeed the beauty of free speech.
No one knows what election day will bring in the Ninth District, but our hopes, prayers, personal campaign support, financial backing and, most importantly, votes are squarely behind Conressman Mike Sodrel.
Mike Sodrel for Congress
[I was similarly invited to the Baron Hill rally earlier this week with Senator Bayh, but could not make it since we were out of town. Perhaps this anonymous blogger is the one who should profess to have the 'press credentials'??]
More personal election selections to come ........

What a waste of space blogtastic!
The first comment from one third world war, aka Kalki Gaur, was deleted. While a generically political in content (Democratic Medievalism or Republican Modernism), it was a thinly veiled advertisement for his/her numerous writings and blogs, and at 2,345 words/333 lines, excessive in length.
I feel confident that any reader, if so inclined, could find the title referenced above at one of the author’s blogs, or other online writings.

Here we thought you was a democrat blogtastic.
I don't know what made you think that I am Democrat, or even a Republican/Independent/etc. for that matter.
Please see my post Fall Blooms.
Thanks for the input.

I agree. Baron Hill supporters have disappeared in New Albany. Even a lot of his ads on the radio are gone.
I was getting my new tags this morning. A middle age man in a Sodrel shirt and hat was working the cars stopped at the light at the corner of Grant Line & Rolling Creek. That's how to run a campaign in the last week.
Sodrel had a big fundraiser over at 300 Spring yesterday. Tony Snow was there from the White House and over 200 people paid to get inside. Baron can't get 50 to show up for free when Bayh was in town!
Isn't it funny also how Hill has been avoiding Garner? You would not know that the two are both Democrats. I bet Baron is mad about Garner. You rely on the Democratic mayors of the larger cities in your district to help whip up support. Garner would drive it away.
I Like Mike !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AMEN! You see Democrat & Republican signs in my yard. I plan to split my vote. You do the job you got my vote.
New Albany is all about change in 2007
Gotta disagree with you on this one about Sodrel. A rubber stamp for Bush and nothing else. His ads do not even reflect anything he has accomplished while he has been there. Sipes sounds good, Loop also, but gotta disagree with ya on this one Blogtastic.
Thanks for letting me disagree, civilly, I might add.
Disagreement is always welcome. Thanks for the input.
Mike's speeches and debates to-date have exactly reflected his positions (and votes) on a variety of issues ranging from the war, taxes, immigration, etc. He is not running away from/denying/contradicting any votes he made in the past two years. Last Saturday, in fact, in front of the local and national press, and with the President at his side, Mike reaffirmed his position on the war on terror.
I must point out, however, that Baron Hill, who spent three times as long in Congress as Mike, is the candidate who has chosen not to run on his record. And when he does mention his current positions on a handful of issues (traditionally associated with conservatives,) they are directly opposite to how he voted while in Congress! (And what exactly is his position on Iraq and the larger war on terror? I've read and listended closely, and still have not be able to ascertain his position.)
Time for a change? Back to what, the record Baron is running from?

Final debate is tonight in Jasper

Sorry, Blogtastic. We will have to beg to disagree.
As a family which took the time to call their Democratic reps in the House and Senate to tell them we, small town people in Southern Indiana, did not believe Iraq was a threat to our National Security and war was unnecessary only to have those two representatives vote with President Bush crushed our family.
It is nice to hear Accountability from a Congressman insofar as he and the American people were misled about the war and can actually admit this error.
Some Americans, my family and Mr. Hill are angry about being misled with false information into a war which has now been accessed, as of today, to be at the "chaos" stage of the war -- the other end of the stick was "peace".
Our friend, a real professor, has said it's a wonder we, the US, isn't at Civil War, and this guy is a peace beatnik.
Thank you for letting me disagree and us both being able to do same civilly. Now, if both sides can just get the voter base out, right?
You are right; turnout will be the key.
